Welcome to Blackhawk Country

The members of the Port Edwards Public School Community believe that we offer a unique and competitive educational opportunity. Nestled along the Wisconsin River our village and surrounding townships offer a family friendly atmosphere. We serve our youth and residents through a beautiful park system, intercity bike trails, and a community YMCA.

This small suburban school district has a dedicated staff and an open flexible attitude toward instructional innovation. These qualities are key and allow us to address the academic and social needs of every student in an academy-like atmosphere.

SCHOOL SAFETY AT PESD

February 16, 2018

Greetings:

Today our thoughts and condolences are with the victims, family members, students and staff of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.  This tragedy reminds us of the importance of fostering positive relationships with each other and all of our students so that everyone in the school can feel safe and secure.   Anytime an incident of this nature happens, this gives us a moment of pause to reflect on our own practices in school.  This is why we use systems such as responsive classroom at the elementary and restorative practices at the middle/high school.  Even further, this is why we continue to emphasize the 5R’s of Respect, Responsibility, Relationships, Resolve and Reflect at the middle and high school levels.  Before this recent incident even happened, we work to continually improve our practices and we working to emphasize mental health and wellness to not only our students, but our staff.

With that, here are some things we have been working on the past few months:

  • Recognizing the importance of staff mental health and wellness
  • Giving students an improved system or method of reporting bullying/harassment
  • Working to foster a positive school climate and culture
  • Empowering students with increased knowledge of mental health, including spotting signs for suicide in others
  • Reviewing our security and safety practices

When threats are made, we work quickly to investigate those threats and to work with local law enforcement as circumstances dictate.  The District will take every threat seriously and will work to make sure that individuals identified as making threats are held accountable for those actions.  As District Administrator, I am not willing to risk the safety of our students or staff, this duty is utmost for me.  Being a parent of students in the district, I know the worry that we all have for the safety of our schools.

Sincerely,

Kyle Cronan

Port Edwards School District Administrator

John Edwards High School Principal
